Blue light damage caused by LED flashlight in smart phone
On January 20, 2015, the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision issued a quality and safety risk warning for built-in LED flashlights in smartphones. Children under 10 years old and elderly people over 60 years old should not look directly at the built-in LED flashlights of mobile phones.
With the rapid development of LED technology and a large number of extensions in application fields, high-power single LEDs are widely used, such as flashers for smartphones. And as the first function, the flasher can be used as a portable flashlight when coupled with the application software. Due to the inherent high brightness characteristics of LED products, it is easy to produce blue light photobiological hazards when used at close range.
In order to evaluate the quality and safety status of smart phone built-in LED flashlight products, the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau conducts quality and safety risk monitoring on smart phone products produced and sold in this city. A total of 19 batches of samples were collected, covering the main brands produced and sold in this city. IEC 62471: 2006 "Photobiological Safety of Lamps and Lamp Systems", IEC/TR 62471-2: 2009 "Photobiological Safety of Lamps and Lamp Systems" were adopted. Safety - Part II: Manufacturer's Guidelines", IEC/TR 62778:2012 "Application of Blue Light Hazard Assessment for Photobiological Safety of Light Sources and Luminaires", GB/T 20145:2006 "Photobiological Safety of Lamps and Lamp Systems" and other standards It is required to carry out risk monitoring on blue light damage items with built-in LED flashlights in smartphones.
After inspection, the blue light damage of 19 batches of products with built-in LED flashlights are all Class 1 hazards (low risk), that is, under normal exposure conditions, the light is not a biological hazard. Based on this risk monitoring situation, the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau issued a quality and safety warning to the whole society: mobile phone manufacturers should pay attention to the quality and safety of LED products in mobile phones, and reasonably control the color temperature and brightness of LEDs.
